Musical Sundial
Approx construction cost US$56

Musical Sundial project -- EPE Online June 1999 This rather whimsical project monitors the motion of the sun using a pointer to cast a shadow that rotates with the sun. Sensors in an arc detect the position of the shadow, and when a sensor is completely covered by the shadow, electronically generated musical chimes and pips mark the hour of the event, one pip for each hour past. Then &. and then, you get a tune played! But thats not all, on any day when the weathers changeable, with the sun coming and going, appropriate phrases of the "tune" mark the disappearance or re-appearance of the sun. There's no shadow of a doubt that you'll have fun with this musical garden gnomon!

More details on this construction project can be found in the July 1999 issue of EPE Online, the world's first web-delivered electronics and computing hobbyist magazine.
