Hosepipe Controller project -- EPE Online June 2001

How to avoid wasting money when watering your garden.

Before moving to their present home, the author’s family were fortunate in having an unmetered mains water supply. They could, therefore, use as much water as they needed for a fixed annual service charge. Times have changed. In the present house, water consumption is “clocked-up” by an outside meter.

One area where potentially large amounts of water can be wasted is in the garden. However, for many people the use of a hosepipe (lawn sprinkler, etc.) is practically essential. To avoid unnecessary cost, it is essential to manage the supply carefully and to use any hosepipe for as short a time as practicable. The Hosepipe Controller described here saves water by turning off the supply after a preset time.

More details on this construction project can be found in the June 2001 issue of EPE Online, the world's first web-delivered electronics and computing hobbyist magazine.
