Long awaited, a PIC and graphics LCD design for monitoring audio frequency signals. The PIC Graphics L.C.D. Scope (G-Scope) described here is a self-contained single channel unit. This is a standalone design intended for visually monitoring signals. G-Scope’s graphics screen has a pixel density of 64 × 128 (vertical × horizontal). In addition to graphical waveforms, it also displays frequency and signal amplitude factors as alphanumeric text lines. G-Scope also provides sync (waveform synchronisation stability) on/off selection, frequency/voltage monitoring on/off and a choice of three sampling rates. The lowest sampling rate allows sub-Hertz signals to be slowly traced on screen while they occur. The signal source can be a.c. or d.c. and waveforms up to 5V peak-to-peak can be input without external attenuation. A simple preamp stage can be switched to provide ×1 or ×10 amplification. More details on this construction project can be found in the May 2001 issue of EPE Online, the world's first web-delivered electronics and computing hobbyist magazine.
