Doorbell Extender project -- EPE Online March 2001

A "through-the-mains" system that will enable you to hear your doorbell in the garage or workshop. Can be adapted to control remote appliances or as a "help-line" call button.

The author's new home came with a small out-building - which would make a great workshop - and there was a garage as well. When the family moved in, it was time to think about communications. The shack was too far away to hear the front doorbell ring. Consequently, having twice missed the arrival of parcels, there was an urgent need for a Doorbell Extender. As opposed to running wires between the main housed and the shack, it was decided to use existing mains wiring to extend the doorbell.
